In his two
seasons on the American Le Mans Series, former Formula One star
Johnny Herbert has been a fan and media favorite. His
presence in the ALMS paddock has had a positive impact on both
fan interest and media coverage in the USA and Europe.
Herbert will drive for Champion Racing in an Audi R8 in the
majority of the races on the ALMS schedule after opening the
season driving for Bentley in the 12 Hours of Sebring. He
has been with the Champion team since early in the 2001
season. In 2002, he scored his first ALMS win while
driving for the factory Audi team at Sebring. Herbert took
two F1 wins for the Benetton team in 1995, then scored his third
win for the Stewart team. He also won the 24 Hours of Le
Mans in 1991 for Mazda. Though now retired from F1
competition, Herbert has done testing and development driving
for F1 teams. Last year, he planned to attempt to qualify
for the Indianapolis 500, but rain on the first weekend of
qualifying and a schedule conflict with the ALMS on the second
weekend kept him out of the race.

also drives a Bentley Speed 8 for Team Bentley in selected
events.
