The X-Factor Grand Prix Of Sonoma PIT NOTES: Page 5 PRESENTED BY AC DELCO & FOSTER'S LAGER SATURDAY JULY 21, 2001 David Brabham (#50-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster S) "I'm a little disappointed. We made some changes which made the car difficult to drive. It's a shame as I think we had the potential to get third place. We are still relearning the LMP-1 (car), but have a good race setup for tomorrow." Franck Lagorce (#51-P Panoz LMP1 Roadster S) "I'm very disappointed to have had this problem today. I only had two gears so I didn't get any chance to confirm the potential of the car." Andy Wallace (#38-P Audi R8) "It's very difficult to know what time you'll do on a clear track. Neither of us had done a clear lap before then. I thought that would be a pretty good time, but obviously not. The other two (Audi) cars went quicker. We're on quite a hard tire which we think will be fantastic for the race. It's maybe a shade too hard for qualifying. The car's got great balance. We're both very happy with the car. It's tomorrow that counts. I think the car should be very consistent at (race) speeds. It should be able to put in lap after lap in the race and not have a problem with tire wear." (about driving last years championship winning Audi) "We're very happy to be in an Audi! It's the best car out there." Frank Biela (#2-P Audi R8) (happy about the times) "No I'm not happy. You're only happy if you're on the pole. That's a fact. On my first quick lap I did a mistake in the fast corner. I was a bit wide going in the corner. I lost definitely something there. And in the second lap it was not possible to go faster with the tire. So for sure, part of it is my fault. There was a little understeer in the car." JJ Lehto (#42-GT BMW M3 GTR) "We can't get it dialed in. Normally, we have a lot of understeer and now we have a massive oversteer. We'll just have to get it right." Jörg Müller (#42-GT BMW M3 GTR): "At least we're in front of the Porsches. JJ had a bit of traffic and we still have some problems with our car - we can't find the proper setup yet. It's going to be a late night to work on it." Fredrik Ekblom (#43-GT BMW M3 GTR): "Dirk did a fantastic job. I've never been to this track and it's quite difficult with all the hills and crests. Dirk won here last year, so I knew he would do a good job in qualifying." |
