THE AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES
The Grand Prix of Portland PIT NOTES: Page 11 SUNDAY AUGUST 5, 2001 Hans Stuck (#6-GT BMW M3 GTR) (about dropping back at the start, was it strategy) "No, I got hit by the Viper in the front right hand tire. When I pitted, (they found) the rim was bent. We were lucky the tire did not burst. We had to take it easy, save fuel and stay conservative with our tires. We were sure this race would be won in the second stint. Boris gave me a great car to finish in last race, I wanted to be sure and do the same for him here." (about missing PIR last year) "Yes, that was the first race I missed in 30 years, to come back and win this year, it feels much better."
Frank Biela (#2-P Audi R8) (about the
car’s performance) "We had a big oversteer that never got
better and even worse after the pace car came out the first
time."
Emanuele Pirro (#2-P Audi R8) "I
am happy with our finish because we were not happy with the
handling of the car during the race. Congrats to the Panoz guys,
they did great."
JJ Lehto (#42-GT BMW M3 GTR) "The
most important thing for us is not to win all the races, but to
stay ahead of the leading Porsche. And we're third today.
That's not good enough."
Jörg Müller (#42-GT BMW M3 GTR) "Thanks to Dirk and Fredrik, they made it happen that we finished third because we need to think of the championship at the moment. So I think that third place belongs to them." Fredrik Ekblom (#43-GT BMW M3 GTR) "It was obviously not so good to finish fourth. I was in the lead almost all of my last stint, but the last yellow flag situation didn't go our way. The car was good and everything worked fine, but we just didn't get the strategy spot on. But we'll learn from this and we'll come back fighting." Dirk Müller (#43-GT BMW M3 GTR) "We had a good car to win the race, we had the lead for more 50 per cent of the race and we had really great potential with Fredrik to win it. We have to look in the future, but I'm really disappointed to finish fourth." |
