The GT3 Grand Prix of Mosport
THE AMERICAN LE MANS SERIES SATURDAY AUGUST 18, 2001 PIT NOTES: Page 1
The GT3 Grand Prix at Mosport marks the only
appearance of the American Le Mans Series in Canada. The series has
raced at Mosport in all three years of its existence, and last year's
race set a record for the closest finish in series history when the
Audi of Allan McNish and Rinaldo Capello beat the BMW of JJ Lehto and
Jorg Muller by just 0.148 second.
This will be round five of the eight-race American
Le Mans Series season for 2001. With the announcement this week that
the scheduled race on Oct. 21 at Charlotte will not be run, each
remaining race takes on even more importance in the series points
battles. The American Le Mans Series awards banquet will be held on
Monday night, October 8, at the Chateau Elan near Road Atlanta. The
banquet will be held two days after the Audi Petit Le Mans, which will
be the final points race of the 2001 season.
Because of the unique characteristics of Mosport
International Raceway, several special procedures have been put in
place for the event by Professional Sports Car Racing, the sanctioning
body for the American Le Mans Series. The most crucial regards the pit
exit, where cars are required to keep all four wheels to the right of
the blend line when exiting pit lane.
