SUPERFLO 12 HOURS AT SEBRING PIT NOTES: Page 10 PRESENTED BY DODGE THURSDAY MARCH 15, 2001 JJ Lehto (#42-GT BMW M3 GTR) "Everything is still very new with this car, so we still have little problems here and there. But it's a good test race for us. I think we'll be quite competitive. We'll see what kind of pace we can keep and how fast we can go. We have to get a reliable car for the race and get as much information out of the race as possible. We'll make the best of what we have." Jörg Müller (#42-GT BMW M3 GTR) "BMW definitely built a car that is quicker than the old one. You can't expect a new car to be there immediately, but I'm pleased with the qualifying at the moment. I'm very happy to be with Team Schnitzer because they'll sort it out and we'll be competitive this season. That's what's important." Dirk Müller (#43-GT BMW M3) "It was a short qualifying for us. We were trying to do a long run with our race engine, not a qualifying run. All of a sudden, we had an engine problem. We need to check what happened." Fredrik Ekblom (#43-GT BMW M3) "There's not much to say because I didn't drive. Unfortunately, we had a technical problem. But better it happens today than on Saturday." Panoz GT Pro Series Quotes: Sonja Bayer (GT class pole sitter) "It's my first pole with a Panoz series (including the WGGTS series). I drafted with the GTS car and that was it. I was comfortable with the car, I was flying around the track." (about tomorrow's race) "I think tomorrow we'll have to watch the tires, that the temperatures don't go too high and overheat. The smartest most consistent driver will win. I don't know much about the GTS drivers, I really hope we run our own race. I'd be disappointed to have a problem with a GTS car. The last race of the WGGTS in Las Vegas I had to drive for points to win the championship. Now my head is free to race as hard as I can. Unless I can get a sponsor, I won't be able to come back, I believe this will be my only race with the series this year." Brian Angen (GTS class pole sitter): "I really like this series. These cars are so fun to drive, you stick it in the corner and stomp on the gas." (about his hot lap): "I was looking for a clean lap and I think I found it on turn 4 or 5. I was close to the car in front and backed off to make it. I started going faster and faster. I knew the car was hooked up." Rocky Angen (third in qualifying and Brian's father): "I'm just glad to be here. I'm glad I can do it with him and all the Panoz people. It's really been a lot of fun. The car is really great, very neutral. We're from California so it's a big deal to come out here. We're just having a good time. The cars are fun to drive." Gary Curtis (second in qualifying): "We put a different carb on the car after this morning that gave us a little more power. I knew I was driving the right line but it was frustrating to be on the back-straight and not be able to pull many people. We got our power back and our time back and we're happy to be on the front row. The car is fast, predictable and a lot of fun. The Angen's are good. I'm up against a family thing. I'm still confident we'll have a good race and may the best man win." |
