AMERICAN LE MANS
RADIO WEB BROADCASTS RACING TO THE WORLD A unique aspect of the American Le Mans Series, the Radio Web brings action of the sports car endurance racing series to anyone in the world who has a computer with internet access and the desire to listen. The broadcasts are available through the series website (www.americanlemans.com). The American Le Mans Series, which brings much of the flavor of the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans to North America in a series of races, also borrowed from the French classic for the Radio Web. Hindaugh is the anchor for Radio Le Mans, and many of the other commentators and engineers who work the ALMS broadcasts help in the broadcast of the 24-hour event. Jim Martyn, a Canadian who will be in the booth with Hindaugh at Sears Point, is one of the veterans of Radio Le Mans work. Also working the Sears Point broadcast will be American Jim Roller and Brit Amanda Stretton, both of whom will report from the pits on driver changes, pit stops and other items of interest. The ALMS began in 1999, and the Radio Web was an immediate hit with sports car racing fans worldwide who did not have access to live television coverage of the events. With the influence of Le Mans, the unique form of racing is especially popular in Europe. In addition to flag-to-flag race coverage, the broadcasts also include extensive pre and post-race shows, as well as coverage of qualifying sessions and selected practice sessions. Broadcast schedules are posted on the website. The website carries real time live timing and scoring during races, qualifying sessions and practice sessions, allowing fans to follow their favorite drivers and cars at all times. In addition, fans can view dozens of photos from all aspects of race weekends. Another popular
feature of the Radio Web broadcasts is listener feedback. Listeners
can send emails to Hindaugh during the broadcasts, and he answers as many
as possible while on the air. |
