Donington Park, Friday 13th April 2001: Audi’s
dominance in 2001 continued at Donington Park with Rinaldo Capello and Tom
Kristensen posting the fastest time of in the two hour European Le Mans
Series (ELMS) test ahead of Saturdays two and three quarter hour race.
The second works Audi of Biela and Pirro was just one tenth of a
second adrift of their teammates, with the Johannson Motorsport Gulf
sponsored Audi just 0.4 seconds behind in third.
The Playstation Chrysler Oreca was the fastest non-Audi, putting in a
impressive performance its ELMS debut to be within a second of the times set
by the German marque. The Panoz LMP07 of David Brabham and Jan Magnussen was
fifth, ahead of the Pescarolo Sport Courage and Westward Racings Panoz
LMP2000, which both set identical times. Dick
Barbour Racings Reynard driven by the Belgian pairing of Didier de Radigues
and Eric Van De Poele was the quickest car in the LeMans Prototype 675
(LMP675) class in 9th place overall.
Franz Konrad and Oliver Gavin were fastest in the GTS class, while
the two BMW M3’s built on their fine debut performance at Sebring last
month to post the two fastest times in the GT class ahead of the Porsche 911
GT3’s. Qualifying
for Saturdays race will take place at 15:30 for the GTs and GT cars, and
16:20 for the LMP900 and LMP675 cars. Both
sessions will last 30 minutes. A
post qualifying press conference will be held in the Paddock Suite at 17:00. ELMS
