ALEX JOB RACING SCORES 1-2 GT VICTORY AT 12 HOURS OF SEBRING
Sebring, FL - March17, 2001 - Alex Job Racing scored a very impressive 1-2 victory in the GT class here at the 49th annual Superflo 12 Hours of Sebring, today. After 12 hours of record setting racing, both McKenna Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RS race cars found themselves ahead of some stiff competition. This is the second straight 1-2 finish for Alex Job Racing in the American Le Mans Series this year.
The event started off on a sad note, as veteran professional sports car racer Bob Wollek was killed in an off track bicycling accident the evening before the start. "This win is in memory of Bob," said team owner Alex Job, "one of the greatest all time sports car drivers in the world."
Lucas Luhr, Sasha Maassen, and Emmanuel Collard drove flawlessly to put the #23 McKenna Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RS in victory circle. Finishing right behind in second place was the #22 McKenna Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RS co-driven by Randy Pobst, Christen Menzel, and Timo Bernhard. The victory celebrations were somewhat subdued. As Maassen put it; "Not only was Bob Wollek a teammate of mine last year, he was a winner. We dedicate this victory to him."
"Our goal was to finish 1-2 today, and we did that, in no small part to McKenna Porsche's sponsorship." Job said. "Winning this race was very important to us. We wanted to start the season strong, and the extra five points awarded for this race might comein handy at the end of the year. The cars ran perfectly, the drivers were flawless, the team was awesome, and we didn't have one problem. That helped us as the new V8 BMW M3 had more power than us. Fortunately, it was also thirstier than us with regards to fuel consumption. It was real close until the brake pad change the BMW team had to perform in the last hour."
Now in its 13th year of competition, Alex Job Racing (AJR) is one of the premier independent Porsche teams in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). Based in a brand new 16,000 sq. ft. facility in Tavares, Florida, AJR entries have tallied two victories in the 12 Hours of Sebring, one win in the 24 Hours of Daytona, eight ALMS wins (prior to the 2001 season) and captured the 1999 ALMS GT Team Championship.
